Loughrea tennis club acquired this land on the lake shore at Gort Road from Loughrea Town Commissioners during the mid 1950’s having been previously located at Fahy’s field, Cooreen. Tennis had also been played behind the Temperance Hall during the 1920’s.
The official opening of the 2 grass courts and one hard court was in August 1957 and provided a wonderful location for young people and adults to enjoy playing tennis. These facilities have been improved and modernised over the years with the addition of the present clubhouse and hard courts in 1979. Lighting was included in 2008 and the present all weather courts 2013. The latest upgrading has been the new roof on the clubhouse which was completed in July 2020.
Over the years players from Loughrea club have successfully competed in local, provincial and interprovincial competitions. Coaching is available throughout the year for both adults and young people and a tennis camp is organised every summer.
